Before starting to discuss this type of operation, the obligatory disclaimer is that even a small battery-operated electronic flash generates voltages and currents that can severely shock and easily kill a person, and that these voltages and currents are often present in the form of capacitor charge even after the unit has been switched off and the batteries removed.
If you have experience working with high-voltage electronics, discharge the capacitor before working on the flash electronics. If you don't have this experience, do collect detailed information on the involved risks before even starting to open the flash enclosure.
Perhaps you have already seen modifications that do not require the disassembly of the flash head, like the following:
http://www.modernmicroscopy.com/main.as ... =55&page=2
http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/ind ... lash1.html
These modifications are inherently safer than the remounting of the electronic flash tube. On the other hand, a guide to the operation you wish to perform is available at:

Although this auctions' main value is as a lamp head for Quartz halogen lamp to a Volpi fiber optic cable, I think that the chasis, heat filter and nice piece of condensor lens glass might be useful for such a project so I am posting it here. Condensor looks like an ashpheric.
This seller has been offering these for a while and the number available does not seem to have changed. I myself have not made him an offer on them.
