A quick read of this web page reveals that this software might be useful for controlling cameras in studio setups, when you're near a PC. Perhaps a laptop/netbook would make it possible to use it away from the studio.
They explicitly mention stacking as an application.

(I have no connection with this vendor and have not personally used this software. It was provided on the DVD that accompanies my c't Digital Photography subscription.)
