Sunset moth scales @29X
X-T3 + Oly 50/0.80 + Omegaron 105 @29X.
Done in the morning, with cars, buses and miscellaneous vehicles... passing about 5-6 meters from the setup. Didn't come out that bad though.

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
Hi Kurt,
thank you! No, I've never used flash(es) for stacking. I've often been tempted to set up a flash-lighting setup for high-mag work, but I find continuous light much easier and more convenient to work with. I am a KISS guy I like to keep everything as simple as possible...

Very nicely lit image!
I am always curious about people's lighting setups when using an objective with such a short working distance. Care to share your setup for this image?
Cheers!

Hello Macrero,
well done!
I think this lens performs better at 100m than at 200mm.

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
Thak you, Zed,
short WD is not big of a problem with bullet-shaped objectives with tiny front elements, as high-res objectives tends to be. Also, I have modded the Oly, I sawed (literally) the front part of the barrel in order to get wider illumination angle.
Here is the lighting setup I'm using:

Hi Adi,
thank you!
Yep, on MFT and APS I rather use it with short tube lenses.

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
OK - wait - you SAWED your objective? And it still functions?!? Holy cow - do you have a picture of that?
Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
I sawed the barrel/housing, not the optics Mine is the BD version.

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
That is a very brave (and cool) modification!
I have the non-BD version of this lens and it is almost impossible to get diffused reflected light to the sample unless it is perfectly flat. I have mostly given up on this lens in favor of a Nikon 60x/0.7 finite objective because of this.

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
I bought the objective with the clear intention of modding it. The mod was far from complicated and the result is certainly worth it. But hey, even if it had failed, it's just money, it comes and goes...zed wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 12:37 pmThat is a very brave (and cool) modification!

The non-BD version is not that suitable for use on camera, given the front part design.

Hello Macrero,
I just came across this post from the (relatively recent) past. I have great respect for your courage and skill in modifying the objective to achieve such a beautiful result!
Best regards,
David

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
Hi David,
thank you! Glad you like the result.
I like playing high-mag when I have no "models" for lower magnifications. It's really not my cup of tea though.
The mod was easy peasy. Truth be told, it does not really takes that much of courage and skills, but thank you
