Cross polarization, but this will eliminate ALL the surface reflections. That will definitely change the character of this nice image.

I had a good tip from Toni,
10_18_32_lapl4_ap171326_conv_edit_iv_small.jpg
i put a white plastic plate with a small hole at 50% of distance (in the middle) between lens and object.
The exposure time is doubled and no reflections.

Actually there are reflections, but they are more diffused. Cross polarization would eliminate all of them. Your result is a nice balance, not quite eliminating them. Reflections give information about shapes.

The color balance and contrast of the second image are much different from the first.

The second image looks very dark and washed out.

If your camera provides manual control over exposure and color balance, then I suggest to set those from a gray card at the subject's position, with the plastic plate in place the same as it will be for the real exposure.

Also, a question: what causes the irregular black bars on left and right sides of the image?

The black bars are stack problems, I use Autostakkert
