Yes the hoverfly nose is a favourite of mine too, and one of the most recent 5x magnification stacks I've done that are starting to get as sharp as I'd like.
The equipment I use is:
Canon 70D
MP-E65
MT24-EX twin flash with my own CAD designed diffusers
Velbon focus rail and just recently a Stackshot focus rail
Software wise I use Zerene Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop and NIK software for editing/touching up.
Most of my shots are around 80 shot stacks but, when I get more time from work I need to do some calculations to work out the optimum amount. I've recently found out about sub-stacking so I hope to bring this into my workflow too if it will help with the quality and post processing time.
