I found this tiny creature, and although I have seen these before I never took pictures and was amazed by the shape of the eyes.

It's a Mayfly. Nicely shot too.

Only the males of certain species have these funky eyes, turbinate I think is the proper word.

Thanks Lauriek! I was not aware of the double eyes on these insects, they are not visible to the naked eye (not to MY eyesight at least!). That's one of the beauties of macro. The closest I can find to matching this is Acentrella Turbida.

Only the males have these specialised turban eyes for spotting the females flying overhead. Very cartoonish :D
