Common House Fly

Post by Paul K »

Borrowed a friends MP-E 65 to do some shots and came up with this

62 image stack, 3X mag using MP-E65, stacked in Zerene, detailed in the shop, cropped, and adjusted.

Inspiration from Mr Krebs, Rik, and all the others - Thank you

Thanks for looking

That's very nice :) I personally prefer a grey background because with white you tend to get a very stark contrast which can loose you some edge detail - especially in the arista and other fine hairs.

Sorry, I missed this one earlier. Yes, very nice -- clean and free of artifacts.

I actually like the white background in this case. Probably a bit of detail is hard to see, maybe missing completely, but that doesn't bother me. ChrisRaper is a fly guru. All of our goals and preferences are likely to be different.

I have not even considered the background in this image; too much bothered by the colour of the fly. In most of the world THE Common House Fly is Musca domestica, a dark grey/black fly. This fly could be the Common House fly in the photographer's area.
Obviously I have seen only a few flies, either specimens or photos, but have never seen anything like this shade of yellow.
