Butterfly Garden

Post by doenoe »

Last week i went to Amsterdam Zoo (Artis) and i had some fun the the butterfly garden. It was rather cold and rainy so why not spend your time in a greenhouse with loads of models.
I shot these all with a Canon EOS 350D, Sigma 105 2.8 macro and a speedlite with a lumiquest softbox on it (which i probably forgot to pack when i went home again) Settings: ISO400 (forgot to change it, but neatimage is a great help when it comes to noise), 1/200, F14

I love the portrait and the second one. I'm not sure if the up-lighting works in the third one.

The lighting on the third photo looks fine to me. It adds drama to it. All are very nice. I've got to go to the local (25 miles each way) butterfly garden someday and try my hand.

I have the sigma lens, too.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
Im really happy with that Sigma, its a pretty sharp lens. Everyone now and then it cant find a focus point and it keeps on searching (yeah i know, i should shoot manual) But most of the time the focus is spot on :)

I really like the first photo, it just looks great and makes my eyes inspect the details.
