One warm summer night I heard a katydid loudly singing from the weeds near our shed. An investigation with the flashlight soon turned up the source of the ruckus, namely a cone-head katydid (Neoconocephalis). I set it up for some more controlled pictures in the yard. A piece of lettuce was enough bribery to keep it around.

Holding one of these for a good look at their face requires some care, as they can bite pretty hard. But I got this funny picture which I rather like. I try to not think of the resemblance to myself.
