My first post - Novoflex Castle Q

Hello. I got directed to this site looking for an answer for my Novoflex Castle Q problem. I ordered it and from a suggestion from another site I ordered this plate because clamp the orientation will not work with a lens collar.

The second one did Zeechar, so try again. Sometimes it it is safer to highlight and copy a long message before you post, just in case it does not work. Being on dial-up I have had the connection terminate at times and loose the post. But if I copied it I could just paste it in to a new post without having to write it again.

I have just started to get into the world of Macro photography by purchasing a Canon MP-E 65. My search for an issue I had with my Novoflex Castle Q led me to this website. A lot of good information here and some threads on the Novoflex. I wanted a fairly sturdy one so I picked this one but the orientation of the clamp is not suited for my lens collar. At a different site someone suggested to purchase this plate which was readily available.

I got my stuff on Friday. Nice and solid rail however after a few days it occurred to me that have I have spent all this money on a precision unit but how can I verify that my camera/lens is parallel the to the rail?

I found this plate but could not see the base so I started to search the net for an answer. I was going ask here today after being registered but I found this at B&H in the features tab - “Its base is configured to slip in from any direction”. I also emailed Novoflex and they gave me the same answer.

I wanted to be sure because it is a special order. Hard to find this anywhere in North America. You would think selling a precision piece of equipment they would have some of the parts that go with it. That original plate was useless for this. Also it moved on me a few times. I have my answer and I just thought I would share in case someone else goes through this. At this site I read about people making registration marks, drilling, pinning, etc. Those threads were older and maybe they did not have these plates. They also come in different lengths. I may yet drill and pin the opposite end for that extra bit of security. The locking screw maybe enough so I’ll see.

I am sorry to hear about your problem with the blank message.

DaveW gives good advice to copy your message before submitting it.

However, in this case the message did not actually get lost, it just printed as all blank. There seems to be a bug in the forum software that is triggered by having a [url] tag without a matching [/url] tag. In your message, the problem was to use a curly brace instead of a square bracket:

[url]http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3 ... .html{/url]

I recommend to Preview all postings before submitting them. Preview would have shown you a blank message too, but then you would still have been able to see and edit what you typed. The problem would still have been pretty mysterious, though!

Thanks for posting detailed information about the Novoflex rail. I'm sure it will be very helpful to someone else.
