Objectives: what's the best choice?

Post by Marpee »

Dear friends,
it's time to choose an objective for my setup. After seeing your tests I'm very interested in a Nikon Plan 10x/0.25(∞/-)WD. I found excellent results with a Zeiss GF Planachromat HD 12,5x/0,25 too. This is more expensive.
Wath's the best? Have you other options?

Thanks.

Have a nice day.

Marpee,

The information in my initial reply provided a link to a number of finite Nikon objectives.

Here is some information regarding the infinity-corrected Nikon CFI Plan 10x/0.25(∞/-)

There is quite a bit of reading in the second link; but it should bring you up-to-speed regarding infinity-corrected objectives and macro photography.

Marpee,

I have only recently purchased an infinity-corrected Nikon CFI Plan 10x/0.25(∞/-) WD 10.5

Some other members: Rogelio Moreno, Enrico Savazzi, Pau Renard, Joaquim, Rik, Bob^3 and others have been quietly tinkering with the Nikon CFI approach.
I have been encouraged by their reports and the calibre of their experience and understanding of these optics.

There appear to be many aspects of this particular approach that are of merit i.e. quality, cost, availability, versatility, coverage, capability.

It is like a new macro wormhole has recently opened up and many of us are being attracted to it. 8)

Brief Definition of 'Wormhole"
A hypothetical "tunnel" connecting two different points in spacetime in such a way that a trip through the wormhole could take much less time than a journey between the same starting and ending points in normal space.

Dear Craig,
thanks for other links. I had no any information about the Zeiss, so I'm looking for a Nikon CFI 10x, incessantly.

Yes, I agree. I'm in that tunnel too. It's a big news for me and I'm very excited. Cool! 8) And many thanks to you and this great forum!

Marpee,

It looks like you are not alone in your appreciation of the Zeiss GF Planachromat HD 12,5x/0,25:

Yes, I had already seen Tomatito photos on Flickr. This is why I asked a comparison between Nikon Plan 10x/0.25(∞/-)WD and Zeiss GF Planachromat HD 12,5x/0,25. Now, maybe we could have some more details about these objectives. (sorry for my English, I'm not sure what I wrote)
