Spring Sphagnum Squeeze

A few items squeezed from Sphagnum which was found in an acidic boggy area of local woodland.

This is conjugating Mougeotia viridis (a filamentous algae), the main image is a 40x objective and the insert is 100x Oil.

Nice. What was the magnification and sensor size for the diatoms? 40x APS?

Hi Lou, it was a 20x and full frame for the Diatoms.

Something else I found in the same spot was a filament of Spirogyra that had produced a couple of asexual aplanospores, the other filament in the image is a Zygnema I believe.

From the same sample are a couple of diatoms with a Helizoan amoeba (I think that's what it is).
