Amoeba - Volume 7 – Mayorella

Post by Walter Piorkowski »

Here we have a common genus of amoeba, Mayorella. There are many species in various forms and sizes. Three specimens are shown here. The first three images are the same size of field (130 by 130 micrometers) so the size difference is quite apparent. The last image is field size is 210 x210 micrometers. These creatures are the masters of distortion, move around quickly, eat a lot and will readily cannibalize each other.
I have put these three together as they all show the same characteristics in the projections of their pseudopodia. I have seen so many others with different shapes that likely determine their specific species.
