Dragon of Anahuac

Post by arlon »

Shot this little fellow with an 80-400mm Zoom. Not exactly the best of closeup lenses but it work fairly well. Out looking for birds an Anahuac wildlife refuge (east of Houdston) but found this little fellow instead.

D200, 80-400mm VR, 1/250s @ F8, 230mm, cropped and resized.

Well they say a dragon fly in the hand is worth two on a stick. Well maybe that was for the birds but hey this is a pretty good shot. :D

You have lovely dragonflies down in the south.
To me this looks like a male Roseate Skimmer (Orthemis ferruginea).
It looks rather pale though, maybe it's old.

May have just been the day. It was very overcast and I did not use a flash. Buddy used a flash and it was even more washed out. Good light it surely would have been brighter.
