Re: "Small aperture technique" according to "gardenersassistant"

I have to say it wasn't an easy session. Everything moves and runs away, it is difficult to find focus, the hand hurts after several minutes. My equipment is really heavy (5dIV), so I successfully used a monopod with a ball head. In this way, I held the camera and operated the shutter with one hand...

Re: First production run with A7sii

I am still envious of your photos. Your DIY diffuser works great - the beetles are beautifully lit in the yellow cup of the flower. I will try to follow your path, because I always missed the depth of field in nature macro photography. I am waiting for it to warm up in Poland and I will try my hand...

Middle Hill Common

Middle Hill Common is a small (1.5 hectares, 4 acre) nature reserve one mile from our house. I have only visited it three times before because I didn't find much to photograph there. I visited it again yesterday, the first time in four years. I had more success this time. Here are some images from t...

Re: Some more small aperture test shots

Great stuff! Thanks Mark. :) I have yet to see a globular springtail, even though I suspect they are simply everywhere. They are reckoned to be very common, although I have to concentrate to find them. They are so small that I can't tell if they are springtails (or some other tiny animal) or a piec...

First production run with A7sii

After various testing of options that I've been doing recently, yesterday I decided that I would adopt the Sony A7sii as my primary camera for photographing invertebrates, to be used with a Sigma EF to E adapter, stacked Kenko EF-mount 2 X and 1.4X teleconverters and  an EF-mount Laowa 100mm 2X macr...

Re: Testing a Sony A7sii for macro

initial assumption that the field of view remains the same between images If you have trouble thinking of same FOV as being an assumption , then try thinking of it as being a goal . That opens the question of how to achieve it. Hence the question I posed to Dalantech: "suppose I want to reproduce t...

Re: Some more small aperture test shots

Very nice quality and variety! Thanks. The church grounds opposite our house have suddenly become target rich in the past few days. This is the first year I've been photographing there. I think I'll be spending more time over there. I especially like the globular springtail that sneaked into the pi...

Some more small aperture test shots

These images are from a session yesterday morning where I was testing the use of a Laowa 100mm 2X macro lens with one 2X and one 1.4X teleconverter. This follows on from this post where I was using two 2X teleconverters. I think this will be my preferred setup for a while: Sony A7sii, Kenko 2X and 1...

Re: Testing a Sony A7sii for macro

This has been a fascinating thread. I think we all knew that typical high res stacking is overkill for web resolutions but I'm amazed how far you can push this and still get really nice looking results. I think perhaps this depends on what one thinks of as typical by way of focus stacks. I think yo...

What a super image. So much to like about it - composition, colours, subject detail, pose and separation. It all fits together so well.
