Sub-slabbing is an interesting concept, but it's daunting to imagine testing enough to come to any general conclusions or guiding principles. SUB-SLABS --> SLABS --> STACK PMax --> DMap variation #1 --> DMap variation #2 ??? DMap variation #1 --> PMax --> DMap variation #2 ??? DMap variation #1 --> ...

Chris, you should hang out a shingle as a private detective -- get a proper hat and a snub-nosed 38 in a shoulder holster and you'd be all set! I guess I was a bit too user-friendly in storing the last-used screen location in the saved prefs. As soon as I can get to it I'll revise or remove this fea...

I've uploaded an old Windows version known to work: billeldridge.com/bugslabber

Does this suffer from the same issue?

Thanks, Chris, for the praise for Bugslabber and for the heads up on this matter. I'm dismayed by this but helpless... I develop on a Mac and Livecode makes standalone apps for Mac and Windows. All I change for the Windows version are fonts, then I check the standalone using the Wine emulator. But I...

Six-Spotted Tiger Beetles (Cicindela sexguttata)

Two six-spotted tiger beetles (#1 and #2-4) from among dozens on some sunny logs today, most rather skittish. They're around 1/2" long. Entomologist Karen Kester of VCU here in Richmond has long studied the courtship song of a tiny parasitoid wasp that lays eggs in tobacco worms (caterpillars). A male's failure to sing the buzz-buzz-buzz-boing correctly results in no loving. She recently co-published a paper on the song production m...

Good news -- thanks for sharing. The announcement and 28-page Magic Lantern Full-Resolution Silent Pictures forum thread can be found here . Magic Lantern nightly builds are here . One interesting thing to note is that you can shoot even if you've worn out your shutter! Limitations (from the hack's ...

Much nicer!

I'm not sure about the slowdown -- I don't get that in Photoshop.

I did some retouching using only Photoshop's spot-healing tool just to see what further lint, pollen and sensor spots I could remove in exactly five minutes. With your permission I'll post the result...

Hi, Andy -- #3 is pretty cool. If I may be so bold as to offer some suggestions: 1) Try using a bulb blower to puff away lint, maybe a pin, toothpick or single-bristle brush under a magnifier to pick away large bits, then cleaning more in Photoshop with the spot healing and clone tools. 2) Try more ...

Thanks, everyone. Yes, that alligator is ferocious. Lights: a pair of the ubiquitous Ikeas, sometimes supplemented with LED flashlights. Carmen, these images seem fairly sharp, so I must have vibration fairly much under control (sandbags, etc.). I posted the exposure times because these are in the d...
