I was thinking an injury, resulting in loss of hydraulic pressure, but dehydration seems very reasonable. I can't make out the ID, other than either a running crab spider, or perhaps a huntsman.

Very interesting! I don't know what these spiders will do w regards to our native garden spiders (Argiope). But those have steeply declined pretty much everywhere long before the Joro spider had arrived.

The markings mark where the cuticle is folded inward. This would be for both structural reinforcement, and to provide surface area where muscles attach.
