Using an Alt-Az telescope mount as a motion control stage

Here is a short video demonstrating the use of an Alt-Az telescope mount as a 2-axis stage for closeup photography. https://bob-o-rama.smugmug.com/Infinity-Photo-Optical-K2-SC-Long-Distance-Microscope/i-Rj7q3Zw I had built this a few years ago but had to cannibalize it. The above is "first light" te...

Re: 1908 gold coin

Thats a nice fixture and it seems to work great. ( I have a very ugly version of that and it works pretty well, mirror salvaged from a dead digital projector. ) Where did you source the mirror?

Re: Weevil Time Killing

=D> wow, how did you clean the weevil? I see only one dust particle in four pictures  A cheap ultrasonic cleaner (though they have doubled/tripled in price from two years ago), distilled water with a drop or two of Jet Dry Finish for about 6ixty seconds and blotted on a coffee filter to abso...

Amaizeing! But really, nice imagery and something I had not seen in that sort of detail before. Interesting. Any idea what the different stains are targeting?

Re: Horse Ascaris egg mitosis

Those are the type of eggs you don't want in your egg salad. I think a lot of that grain is just just inherent in the staining, there is actually a lot of structure to cytoplasm. You have some very eggciting images from this and your other recent eggsplorations.

Re: A micro riddle

That is gorgeous and the comb like structure is very much unexpected. I wonder if this is growing at a fast enough rate you could observe it with a time lapse.

So is this in response to a "food this way" sort of chemical signal? Or does branching just occur, and whatever ones are successful are reinforced?

Re: How to get bright white backgrounds?

( The suggestion about using collimated rear illumination is likely the best solution. ) It may also be possible to use chromakey to enable your masks to be selected more reliably. You could distinguish between the chromakey background and white-ish specular highlights from the coins edges. Also the...

Re: Some jumping spiders, focus stacked

Those are just awesome. I guess I get easily frustrated, but pretty much any time I try to take a picture of anything that it alive it usually tries to sting me in the eye, or waits till everything is dialed in to jump or fly away.

Honestly I never really thought too much about what was inside those things. Very interesting and nicely photographed. I'm thinking they would also make for a great timelapse subject.

Are those individual eggs, or is that like a dozen egg sacks which warrant some sort of military response?
