When I look at things such as butterfly or moth wing scales, I still cannot help but to wonder just how the organisms genome accomplishes all that it does. We know what all the of the parts are or at least most of them if not all but genetic switchs are being thrown, open and closed all of the time ...

Insect eggs

Not a very good photograph, I've posted worse I guess. :-k At first I thought these to be the eggs of a shield bug but shield bug eggs are more upright, barrel-shaped and somewhat spiked along the rings of dehiscence. Anyway, I'm keeping them around, maybe they will hatch and I might get a photo of ...

There are very few photos of this genus on the web, probably because they are so small. I once photographed one of this genus while on a course run by a myxo specialist and it looks just like your specimen. That is interesting to know. :) I have encountered only three or four of them, all quite by ...

Beautiful photos :D The fifth one reminds me of some long lost math problem of yester-year having been scratched out on parchment.

Thank you very much, Ken. I had a hard time with the illumination, because of the big eyes. I also tried to get a dynamic touch with the leg pose:) Kind regards, Simon The leg pose is suggestive of a bit of forward movement and though I did notice that in the beginning I failed to comment on it as ...

Thanks Dave :D I do believe your correct, it does belong in the Echinosteliales as their protoplasmodia and fruitbodies are microscopic and remain so throughout their life cycle.

Conidia, fungal

At least I am assuming this to be conidia. When looking at fungi you begin to realize that the diversity of the kingdom is much more than mushrooms or a foul stinky ooze blistering between your toes nestled in your gym socks. However this was not discovered between any toes or shaken from the fibers...

I like the way this is illuminated. A lot of soft fine details are brought out and though a fly is a fly is a fly, this image has a certain quality about it that I haven't noticed in others similar to it, though I don't know why or what that is. Maybe the composition. We all see things much differen...

Corticulous micro-myxomycete fruit body

I oftentimes use my Axiostar much like a CMO dissecting microscope, the scale bar was made by photographing a plastic ruler at 100x, so I cannot attest to its accuracy, however a microscope stage micrometer is in my future. Corticolous myxomycetes are known for their extremely small size and for tha...

These are all very detailed and I like those pastel colors but that first one, though really good, reminds me of that stupid virus that is going around right now. :)

About 500 grasses as a matter of fact. I had to look this up as it was new to me. Like they say, you hang around any one place long enough, you're bound to learn something. :) I assume these are cross-sections. Very nice 8)
