I've always been fascinated by Spring Peepers; first as a child collecting them, later as an adult delighting in their chorus. What still puzzles me is their life history; they emerge from winter presumably from being buried in mud/earth in the tens of thousands, sing in huge mating aggregations and...

Thanks for your notes, I'm moving residence at the moment; always fun. Please excuse my late response.

I'm using the image processing software in Photoshop CS5 and 16 bit TIFF files.

Thanks again,

Phil

Latest wisdom for stacking workflow with ZSP

I found this thread when searching for stacking workflow, as it's a few years old I'm wondering what the current ideas are pertaining to workflow for Zerene Stacker. I'm shooting a Canon 7D in large jpeg and raw. The large jpegs on the 7D aren't as good as the raw obviously- are members using the ca...

Lovely images. I recall Oxybelis being fond of lizards and frogs. And for such prey his toxin is just right for the job.

I've enjoyed your jungles images very much, haven't been in a while and I do miss this brilliant biome.

best, Phil

Brilliant images. I had some of these colorful ladies in my garden in Chepstow. I've yet to see like wasps in Montana.

The Darth Vader fly is absolutely fantastic. Can you share the equipment/techniques used? How are you lighting your subject?

Micro positioners advise

I'm interested to know what model of micro positioner members are using. Is any particular micrometer preferred due to its scale? What is the perceived wisdom of increments/steps advanced between shots?

Thanks

In the past I've flocked surfaces of homemade borescopes. Black flocking is very effective at reducing internal flare inside lens tubes, baffles and inner workings. It's a bit of work and requires three or four good washings and blowing off with air to insure all the unsecured flocking is removed bu...

Thanks very much for the posts. If anything Paul the RAW files look worse as they show up the CA and poor registration more. Thanks for the comments Charles we are on the same page as far as lighting, I was itching to get stacking and when quick and dirty with a single harsh flash toned down by a ti...

First stacks

First attempts at stacking. ZS on free trial. Rough registration; my hand wound focus rail sloppy. Lots of CA, I tried to address it with photoshop. No cropping, minimal post production. On the biology side I can't help but wonder if the fly species is predatory with those lance-like mandibles. Its ...
