Re: Can anyone identify this?

Being as there is or were no signs of movement, and that isn't saying much, I would venture the guess of a cyst of some kind, a protist probably. However you might want to research it a bit more.

Re: Photography through camera port on stereo microscope

Maybe I am missing something and my apologies if so but I have been photographing through my Meiji EMZ stereo microscopes for years now with no problems, simply by shooting through either one of the two eyepieces or a 10X ocular in the trinocular port and have gotten, for me, relatively good results...

Re: Trout Lily Bacon & Sausages

I never quite thought of them that away but you're right. We have at least 10 miles of nature trails that run through the Arboretum grounds at UNC Asheville and these little Trout lilies are in great abundance there trailside. Wonderful photograph by the way, makes me want to get up off my duff and ...

Re: A fen is a special place -- and there is an orchid

Thanks for the link there Mark. I took a look and the three counties listed are quite a ways east of me but at least now I do know where the dragonflies may be found. Thanks again!

Ken :)

Re: lichens,moss and water droplets

Interesting shot David. Things like lichens and mosses seem to go well together, liverworts too. I recently opted for a lighter outfit to carry afield a Canon Rebel T8i and was quite impressed with the kit lens, EF-S 18-55mm that came with it. Though as always it seems, the kit lenses get a bad writ...

Re: A fen is a special place -- and there is an orchid

Quite an interesting and well written yarn there Mark and the little dragonflies were something that I had never read or heard of. Sexual dimorphisms are oftentimes fascinating and I was expecting the male to be a bit more flashy in appearance but I suppose if your a female of the species he would p...

Re: Stinkbug & the Roach

Predatory shots are always interesting. Seems I read some where or heard said in a lecture, that cockroaches suffered greatly during the "Great Dying" at the End Permian. So much so that they came very close to extinction. However, having also survived the K/T event 65mya, I suppose they earned thei...

A beautiful specimen. Nice shots! I have only seen two or three butterflies this year, unlike the great numbers of them that I used to see in the past.

That is so unique a specimen. It's the first time I have ever seen something like this. :) I don't do much TLM microscopy any more, especially at high magnifications, diabetic retinopathy you know. :-k

Mushroom gills

Nothing spectacular, just some gill work while looking over a small mushroom. The gill area of the mushroom shown is approx. 1 cm. from stem (lower lefthand corner) to the edge of the cap diagonally. :) EOS 7D with Sigma 105mm macro (1:1) w/36mm ext. tube, Canon 430EXII speedlight. Re: possibly the most beautiful fern spores

Quite beautiful! They remind me of pastries in the windows of the bake shops in Barcelona. Of course when your a diabetic, everything reminds you of being a pastry or something your not supposed to be eating.
