Chromididae Swarms
Over the years while near wetlands around dusk, Ive seen Chromididae swarms and tried to capture it with film and digital cameras. Most shot were complete blurs but a few were ... kind of ok. The images are very nice. Ive been hesitant about getting another manual lens but images like these make it harder to decide. Nice job.

Re: Loss of Robert OToole
Offline, some of us on the admin team have discussed reaching out to Tatyana, and I plan to do so. Robert's work is indeed a tremendous resource that we hope will remain. Also, today on Facebook, Tatyana mentioned a video lecture delivered by Robert a few years ago: Photographing Wild Alaska and Ja...

Re: BBC Wildlife Mag: Close-up Winners
I was looking through the criteria for using larger lenses (e.g, telephoto or zoom) to achieve closeup images for this site and didn't really find any. Any thoughts on that might be helpful.

BBC Wildlife Mag: Close-up Winners
BBC WILDLIFE MAGAZINE: Fantastical image of slime mould encased in a raindrop among winners in close-up photography challenge. At least one photo captured with a 300mm lens… beautiful images! https://www.discoverwildlife.com/apple-news-ingest/close-up-photographer-of-the-year-challenge-water-winners

Re: A rather 'summerish' spring II
Nice article and images. I learned something. I guessed that was a legless lizard due to the scale pattern and face. There are 9 spp in the US.

Very nice images. The distribution appears to be in colder climates (idigbio mapping). Appreciated the story too, always enhances the images.

Bobcat Skull
Something different ... Rik, please delete if not considered close-up images. This is a throwhback to my vertebrate zool days. I found the Bobcat skull ( Lynx rufus ) years ago and thought it would be interesting to photograph. The images are stacked. It's native to Canada, US and parts of Mexico ( ...

Gray Mold on Pear
I am not familiar with molds but found this one one of our pears. In doing a search online, this is something that looked close - Botrytis blight possibly “gray mold” , fungus Botrytis cinerea . I let it grow out for a few days and did a few stacks. Pear-Mold-5A-2024-03-21.jpg Pear-4-grey-mold-Final...
