Beautiful. Your Olympus Vanox DIC is superb and it's obviously in very skilled hands.

Very nice and aesthetically pleasing. It is possible to get a rather similar phase effect with the Leitz Heine condenser, but I think this looks nicer. I'm surprised how good the resolution is considering the modest NA of the X10 objective and the inclusion of a phase ring. This must be quite a larg...

Thanks for the tip about extracting frames Rik. Shame about ffmpeg being command line and not having a GUI. I know its 'enthusiastware', but I do regard the invention of the GUI, along with deodorant and the credit card as one of the great boons of modern life. • I am still messing up saving t...

I guess we have all experienced problems like this at one time or another. It is indeed incredibly frustrating when you can find where the culprit dust is. I think I've narrowed it down to the field lens and possibly the mirror inside the base between the field lens and the lamp house. From your des...

It's a camera adapter to go into a trinocular tube, with a right angle optical viewfinder for focusing. It dates from film camera days. There is a prism to split the light between the camera and the viewfinder.

You mention using Helicon Focus version 6.8 to process the image as an alternative to in camera processing. I presume the camera saves the 6K focus stack video burst as an MP4 file which can be imported into Helicon with the video import function? Is there another way to extract selected frames from...

My bad. Didn't read either the manual or Michael's post properly. You CAN stack 6K post focus images in camera with the G9 with a function called merging. I will edit my original post to avoid propagating the error.

I encouraged Michael to start this thread in a PM as I too am getting to grips with a combination of the Panasonic Lumix G9 and the Olympus 60mm F2.8 macro lens. I bought this combination for a variety of reasons. I have been finding my existing Canon gear increasingly heavy and awkward to carry in ...

Glad it's all working well now. I'm sure that at one point this microscope had an OEM conversion to epi fluorescence, but all gear that was stripped out before the microscope was sold on. The Diaphot TMD is a great classic IMO and retains its resale value far better than many other microscopes of si...

Firstly I'm glad you've sorted out your Koehler issue and are generally happy with the microscope. I love mine, it's very versatile. The only downside is the relatively low NA of the condenser (0.52) which limits somewhat the performance of high NA objectives. Looking at what was under the black box...

Yes this scope has certainly been modified from the configuration of a standard Diaphot TMD with DIC. The standard configuration is as shown in your second photo and is identical with my microscope. The black box rather crudely attached with screws below the objective turret, with the pull/rotate ro...

Graham - I don't think it's Porphyry. Images of sections of porphyry minerals from the web don't look anything like my specimen. IMHO it looks more like chemical crystals embossed in a matrix rather than a petrological section. The use of the word 'section' on the label may be misleading. Possibly i...

Thanks. The vendor told me that some pyritised ammonites are brittle but her cleaning/polishing process tends to eliminate those. My specimen does not appear to be at all brittle. Almost all the ammonite specimens from this very rich location are pyritised.
