Episcopic intro video

Hi, all... it's been a long time. I put together an introductory video about episcopic techniques, so I figured I'd share it! It is 10 minutes long and uses a Nikon Epiphot TME. https://lavinia.as.arizona.edu/~mtuellis my site, which maybe you've visited in the past. This video can be fou...

MM-11 schematic?

Hi, I picked up an MM-11 base, and the switch indicator comes on, but neither lamp output seems to work. First, the bottom light says that it is 20W, but the top light isn't marked... does anyone know if it is also 20W, or if it sports a 50W supply? Second, does anyone happen to have the schematics ...

Kurt, Well, thanks for the info! I've actually got one of those 20 mm extenders that hold the slider. It came with a fluorescence scope. Now that is starting to make some sense! As for your questions - #1, I'm not sure - it may be that they are of the same vintage, but one was if you also wanted to ...

Yes, the MI is a different beast. The DI is very useful for what it is intended for, but not so much outside of that. If you were making knives or razor blades or optical surfaces or semiconductor wafers - it gives a way to visualize the surface in (essentially) 3D, so you can know it is good or tha...

Well, everything is reflective - the best AR coatings still aren't perfect. But, I think you mean highly reflective? No, it works fine on bare glass which is about 4% reflective. The contrast of the fringes will vary with the ratio of test beam to reference beam, so you will see changes in contrast ...

Nice photo, Steve!

Yeah, Rik - those little yellow flowers tells you it's time to pull that bugger up, before they dry out!

Hi, sorry, they've "upgraded" the server my site is on, and it is currently only sort of working... Anyway, in the video made by James, he is adjusting focus, which changes the path length between the specimen and the reference mirror in the objective. This goes from no fringes (out of the range of ...

You of course are correct, for most instances. It is empty resolution beyond maybe 3200 dpi, depending on a few factors (diffraction and aberrations, for sure). In theory, regular film does have about 300 line pairs/mm, which is ~15,000 dpi. While I haven't tried it yet, for high contrast, low iso i...

Funny you should bring this up. I just got an Epson Perfection V850 Pro - that thing is beautiful! I'm actually scanning some 35 mm color negatives as I type. I mostly got it because it can do large format negatives (and positives), since I've started playing around with 4x5 (inch), but my enlarger ...

Ah, yes... both darkfield with BD DIC 40x objectives. The camera, believe it or not, is a cheap-o USB camera from OMAX, although it is the 14 MP version. Presented here is at 25% of the original size, pushed through Photoshop for levels and unsharp masking. I just got a c-mount adapter so I can put ...

Madagascar sunset moth

Steve was nice enough to give one of his sunset moths to me - here is a stack (Zerene DMap) of 63 frames at ISO 400, 1/200th of a second full-frame Nikon D810 with a Zeiss Triotar 135 mm prime as a tube lens and a reversed Pentax 67 200 mm f/4 (wide open = NA 0.125) as the objective, for an on-senso...
