Which is better - moving camera or focal point ?

Greetings all - I have been quiet for a while, and am about to share info with some friends. When shooting a focus stack is it better to move the camera closer - like on a rail, or is it better to move the point of focus while keeping camera in the same place ? Please advise pro's and cons ! Many th...

Stiching Stacked Macro images

Condiments of the seasoning to you all. I have just seen Levon Biss video about stitching stacked macro images. Please will SKS tell me what software etc I will need to try this. I have Zerene, and Photoshop CS6 extended - not the cloud version. Being a pensioner, my budget is limited, as well as th...

Hi bs0604 - To get your sensor width, look up the sensor dimensions in your camera manual. Make a note of this, as you need it to determine your magnification. Now using a ruler in mm or smaller, take a photo of the ruler, and note how many mm you get into your field of view. Magnification is obtain...

Hi Chris - Much better than I feared. I had prepared a massive 350 slide powerpoint, with target points to reach at specific times. Managed to go according to schedule. Got rated 10 out of 10 by some delegates, and as a result, have been invited to repeat the presentation in January. very JOYFUL !!

Thanks Chris and Rik.

All I want to get across is that DOF is tiny, and stacking is a good way to go - and the table 2a does that ! Math will boggle them

Hold thumbs - I will be running a macro workshop of 4 hours a day on Sat and Sunday !

Rather nervous

Cross-polarized Ascorbic acide crystals - how to prepare ?

Greetings all - I have just bought a small bottle of Solgar Ascorbic Acid crystals to use in Cross-polarized photography. The lab grade stuff was way beyond my paygrade. Please will the experts on this list offer me some hints about the best way to prepare specimens, whether a strong of dilute solut...

One of the Live view settings is "Exposure Simulation" Best have this set OFF.

Also, Shooting at 5X needs LOTS OF LIGHT.

I have 3x 10W LEDS taken from exterior floodlights for my high mag "focusing lights", then switch to my Macro Twinlight fflash for actual exposure

Have you seen the 4-level pendulum setup used in the A-LIGO (Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravity wave Observatory) setup to suspend their mirrors from ?? They reduce vibration to a point where detection of 10 to the minus 23 orders of magnitude are possible ? Some ideas for you there. Oh - one thi...

Here is my best stack of 6 images as discussed above. The Yellow stamen? area has been vastly improved by stacking, while parts of the rest of the flower were selected in post-stacking retouching. I personally love Zerene - since I discovered how easy retouching is. http://www.photomacrography.net/f...
