Beatsy, I was in the same situation a few years ago. My stereo microscope at the time was a Wild M5 without a photo tube. The M5 is a very good stereo microscope but at low magnification there was quite a bit of "doming" and it has no Zoom facility only discrete magnification steps. I ended up repla...

Stentor & Co video

Evening all, There's a new unedited video with a DIC session (11 minutes) showing a very rich sample containing among other things Stentors. As it's unedited there's no sound. I plan to upload an edited version when it's ready. So, up front, sorry for all the hunting around ! If nothing else, it cou...

Brian, Bruce, Carlos & Phil, Thanks for your comments. I'm very happy I'm not just seeing things ! ;-) Very well spotted that the pellets are similar. Chances are it's the same thing. Another interesting thing is if you look at the full resolution images on the Picasa website and use the magnifying ...

Am I seeing things ?

Greetings all, I've been thinking of posting this question for a while ;-) For many years I have had this petrified piece of Sycamore wood lying around and I've often used it for focusing practice as the details are fantastic. Every time I've looked at it I've wondered if the "tracks" I see could be...

So, first post for a while as work and life in general has kept me away from the hobby. Lately though I've been spending more time on photography and my study of pond life. I've always dreamed of owning a "proper" Stereomicroscope to complement my Polyvar and I have been saving up the pennies for a ...

Hi Craig, Yes, I use Live View as the 5D Mark II has the silent shooting option. Only problem is that the camera screen is oriented at a 90 degree angle to your normal working position and it cannot be re-positioned like on the newer 60D. So, I've come up with the following solution : https://lh3.go...

Polyvar 2 - Canon APS-C versus Full frame

Greetings, Until now I have been using a Canon 60D with my Polyvar 2 microscope. Originally the microscope was designed for 35mm film so I've been looking to replace the APS-C 60D with a Canon 5D Mark II in order to be able to utilize the photo optics of the microscope. So, finally I received a body...

Paul,

That first Harvestman in UV... Wow ! Looks almost like under water photography. Do you use the MP-E 65 ? If so, how did you illuminate this specimen ? UV LED's ?
