Wow, that has to be the best image I've seen of detailed radiolarians taken without a coverslip.

I presume these were taken with a 50x mitty?

A6300 is a great APSC camera and it will be easy to find good optics. Also represents good value for money too.

I decided on the A6500. It's a very nice APS-C camera, has a fantastic sensor, and overall good features for the money. The other choice would be to go to the A7III which would almost double the price and not really give me a great deal more performance, where I could invest that money in a rail, ex...

Canon vs Sony electronic silent shutter

I'm thinking of getting into extreme macro. I was looking at the Canon M50 but wasn't certain whether it had a silent electronic shutter which would make shooting stacks easier. I also considered the Sony A6500. Again I have no idea if this camera has a silent shutter feature. I have access to a tub...

Stunning images.

What equipment was used? That last shot shows quite a lot of compound eye detail even some tiny imperfections of the individual structures.

Homemade Stereo Microscope

https://www.flickr.com/photos/26262745@N08/sets/72157631847374417/ Seems to have a very cool idea of attaching a flat closeup lens cap in front of the binocular objectives to give 8x (or higher depending on the binocular magnification, typically 8 to 25x). This is supposed to function as a "stereo m...

Absolutely mesmerising.

I've always liked nice DIC images when done right, and this one is top-notch.

That's a very small pollen piece. But the detail is phenomenal.

Is it possible to use the Mitty 5x with the Raynox 150?

Or is there something specific about the 250 with the 105mm tube?

Yep, if you're thinking of buying a mitty on eBay, unless you have a generous return time frame, if you have the right of return, and the appropriate testing equipment/etc, forget it.

Yeah, I was about to pull the trigger on 3 Mittys on eBay. A 2x, 5x and 10x. But now...I'm very hesitant, and have decided not to go through with it. I'll just stick with a 2x or 5x to start with, brand new, and then, if I feel up to it, graduate to a 10x. Saving money is a pain in the proverbial, b...

mjkzz, if you don't mind me asking, what is that whitish looking stuff around the Raynox lens housing?

It looks almost like glue?

Very nice stack! I'm getting more and more interested and keen in doing this type of macro work, I think it's the kind of thing I would be very good at doing once I learn enough to do really good macros. I've considered doing several different subjects, different match heads, pin heads, nails, screw...

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I've seen some on eBay too, some of them are of different types, but I could find the ones I needed. Another thing that might be interesting is a polarizer . Has anyone had any luck with using an M42 polarizer (one that can rotate) along with polarized ...

Those are reasonable prices. I wonder if just going for the Mitty 10x to start off with, then if I want, I can go down to 5x on the 10x by using a smaller tube length to get the 5x? Is it possible to go down to 5x on a 10x Mitty? Just trying to save a little money wherever I can. If I use a Canon be...

BW APO 2x 5x prices?

I've heard some nice things about the BW APO 2x and 5x objectives. I know a lot of people still prefer the Mitutoyo 10x for the 10x lens, which I do eventually plan to get hold of as I complete my macro setup. I've been a bit baffled as to what the general prices are for the 2x and 5x BW APO objecti...
