Re: Nikon Eclipse DIC PF and PA objective prism sliders
Thank you for the insights. Will be happy with the sliders that have as notice even the PF sliders are now much more expensive than when I bought them in 2019.

"Beyond Extreme Close-Up Photography" by Julian Cr
Hi In case of interest, the November 2018 issue of Micscape e-zine has a review of Julian Cremona's latest book published in September as below. The author notes that it covers the mag ratio 5:1 - 30:1 and beyond (on a 35 mm equivalent sensor). His earlier book covered 1:4 to 4:1. David www.micscape...

Paper comparing Olympus TG-4 camera and Canon macro lenses
Hi Recently treated myself to a secondhand Olympus TG-5 in particular to explore its built in Microscope Mode with internal and external focus stacking options. The public domain paper below by Jan Mertens et al is an interesting comparison of the TG-4 (same features) with the Canon 60mm and MP-E ma...

Interesting :). Any reason why you couldn't drill a hole in a cheaper unit? Hi Chris The plates as far as can gather from online resources are an array of semiconductors filling the whole plate area so would compromise the unit if drilled a hole. These examples also have very tough ceramic plate to...

Maybe I'm easily pleased, but watching something akin to snowflakes growing (actually dew condensing and freezing) in real time in a warm room is rather fun and fascinating. Zeiss 2.5X objective, side gooseneck lighting. This uses the Peltier plate at 10V 2A remarked on previously. Although as it's ...

Peltier plate TES1-11930 with hole for cold stage
Hi Peltier plates with holes seem much less common than the solid plates but the TES1-11930 3 x 3 cm with 5 mm hole 14V / 3A 24W works well for transmitted studies from early trials. (Plate mis-labelled as TES1-11903 by some eBay and Alibaba sellers.) Easier to work with than the cheap TEC1-12706 so...

Lost EFCS on Canon 600D?
Hi At the risk of asking a dumb question I’m a bit baffled by my Canon 600D. In Live View mode by default doesn’t it always have EFCS on with no option to disable. So mirror stays up all the time and when fire shutter it exposes with electronic first curtain, finishes with mechanical, and mirror sta...
