Re: how to connect Micrometer on focus rail?
mmmm I don't have the tools for that. Any other none DIY option? You only need a drill and a drill bit. Use machine screws and nuts. You can find the proper size screw and drill size here . It's also very easy to tap aluminum and the taps are inexpensive. The aluminum plate can be cut to size with ...

You can get T8 leadscrews with pitches between 1mm and 14mm. Anti-backlash nuts are also available. I can't measure any backlash on mine.

Re: Questions about linear rail drive gear
I can see why that would happen  Fix is pretty simple, just add a mechanical brake which is activated whenever the stepper is disabled. Wire it on the Enable pin the same as you would an NC limit switch. Sure, there are motors specifically for this kind of situation, I think they are called ...

Re: Questions about linear rail drive gear
Everything depends on the desired magnification. My desktop stacking/stitching system can do 1 micron steps (+-.2 microns). It's also belt driven. I did spend several hours lapping the leadscrew. Zerene Stacker makes it easy to measure the accuracy of your system. Generally speaking Acme or Trapezoi...

Re: Questions about linear rail drive gear
Why do you say toothed (timing) belts have disadvantages? I just added glass linear scales with 5 micron resolution to my rose engine. 1 micron and .5 micron scales are available. The sliderest (stage) is driven with a 82oz-in Nema 24 stepper, TR8 2mm pitch leadscrew, and 5:1 gear reduction using GT...

Re: Parallel sensor alignment / digital spirit levels
I have one I use in woodworking, but I only need to get things aligned to about a degree
It works fine for that. The display resolution is .01 degree but the accuracy is definitely .1 degree or worse. What are your required tolerances?

Re: Focus stacking algorithms: Zerene vs Photoshop
No need to know the algorithms. Just stack the same image with Zerene and Photoshop. I'll guarantee the Zerene image will have fewer artifacts
