I wonder if it is possible to use continuous shooting mode with the full electronic shutter, without the mirror slapping between shots. Or even single shot mode with no waiting period between shots, if there is any difference between these two modes. What I am thinking about is Helicon Remote focus ...

As was mentioned above, Nikon D850 which will be available in September 2017 has electronic shutter option and also in-camera focus bracketing. I suppose there will be a burst shooting mode with mirror glued up using electronic shutter? That would be very nice... Silent Shooter: The D850 offers the ...

Hello, you can also use teleconverters like Kenko 2X teleconverter. I have been using that one with Canon 100mm L macro and it works fine and takes you to 2x. I have also Kenko extension rings but never really use them... I feel 2x teleconverter takes me further than the extension rings. Never tried...

If I didn't have any gear and this would be my entry point to field macro focus bracketing Olympus would be maybe the best option. It is a pity if there is no adapter for Canon lenses and so far it looks like there is none. Metabones tells among other things that •No support for Focus Stacking and F...

Thanks for the info. The image of aphids + this data (Pen-F, recording raw + jpg, first 10 images ~ 1sec) are both impressive. I've photographed a lot of aphids and never even considered doing field stacks as they move a bit all the time. 10 shots a second would open up great possibilities. This is ...

Best gear for field stacking?

I am using Stackshot + Helicon remote for studio stacks but for field stacks I am doing manual focus stacking - take a photo, turn the focus ring, take a photo etc. I bought and tested the Helicon FB tube but that's not really an viable option for field stacks (with my present gear), for several rea...

Reading again what Rik wrote yesterday it occured to me that I just need to connect the dots in my two pictures. Both pictures are more or less correct but tell just half of the story. Together they combine to make the story Rik told. The principle of superposition of waves states that when two or m...

Thanks Rik, trying to explain stuff is a very effective way to clarify thoughts. It just needs a student who doesn't seem to grasp the obvious and keeps asking stupid questions... Here's what you wrote: 3. Birefringent material introduced between the two polarizers alters the polarization of light p...

Pau is essentially correct. I'm not sure about the solid/liquid aspect, but I can't think of an example of a chiral solid at the moment. Certain liquid crystals are chiral, notably our friend cholesterol (a cholesteric liquid crystal). Optical activity as a term is generally reserved for substances...

Total mystery to me how you can manage these superb images handheld. Are you shooting the images one-by-one or are you using some sort of burst shooting mode. If you use burst shooting how can you change apperture during the stack? I guess you are not shooting in live view either and are not using E...

You see perfect circles (or concentric circular isochromes) when you are looking straight down the optical axis of an uniaxial crystal. Gemologist use this method to find out whether a mineral is uniaxial/biaxial isotropic/nonisotropic. You are also seeing in the circle a black center spot, called t...

I bought the slides just to educate myself about mounting stuff on slides. Also bought some mountants and glues, stains and other stuff used for mounting as I know next to nothing about preparing stuff for microscopy. So far I have been mostly using different clips and toothpicks, needles and such. ...
