Skittish little buggers, ain't they? At first I despaired of getting a closeup, but I observed where they were hanging around before I spooked them, then plopped down and waited. They seem to be more alert to threats from above than from ground level, so when a few returned I was able to belly-crawl...

This is an "environmental portrait" of the gecko. With the blurred background it's quite a nice shot but doesn't move me to exclaim "masterpiece".

Hmmm... while I never got a clear picture of what wasn't working for All Ex, apparently it's working for him now, so all's well that ends well.

Dragonflies for Carmen

http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3427_62415_6454dragonflyonChairmakersRush_1.jpg I believe (wrongly, see below) this is a Cinnamon Shadowdragon (Neurocordulia virginiensis) on Chairmaker's Rush (Scirpus americanus). Canon 60D, 70-200mm, ISO 640, f5.6, 1/400 http://www.photomacrography....

Hi, All Ex, sorry for your frustration. What do you mean by "goes wrong"? Perhaps you could send me a PM with an output script for a stack of ten images with three slabs (no, that's not too shallow for Bugslabber).

Try Chris S.'s SlabberJockey.

Could you be more specific about how Bugslabber does not seem to work?

Has anyone else had success or failure with Bugslabber under Win 8.1?

Great shot -- it's very cool to see this. How fortunate she stayed still long enough for a stack!

Thanks, Rik. It seems you've nailed it on the katydid.

Here's another -- also a swallowtail?

Thanks, Carmen. The moth was shot with a Canon G15, the others with a G15 with Raynox 250 closeup lens attached. Generally f7.1 or f8, 1/100 to 1/400, ISO 640 to 1000. The dragonfly is actually a damselfly -- the differences are described here . But species ID is not my strong suit, and I'm expectin...

Thanks, y'all. I was surprised to see the yellow tiger stripes in the photos -- the bugs look dark grey to the naked eye and rarely stay still enough to see clearly. I didn't sit -- more of a stalk and squat trying unsuccessfully to keep my butt dry. It only takes a minute for the striders to become...
