Re: Three (relatively) inexpensive 50x Objectives: generic "LMPlanFl" vs Generic BD Plan vs Mitutoyo M50

50x comparison, nice! The BD Plan is not so bad! What do those things cost anyway? I should try to dig up some crops of a 50x Mitutoyo M Plan I bought for $100 with a mint condition barrel but a huge chip in the front element. 100% fine IQ, the chip had zero effect on IQ. Fact was it was better than...

Re: Monochromatic Microscopes?

Fascinating video & else on these magnificient lithigraphy machines. Incidentally it's been lately in news that they are fast becoming the decisive items access to which the industiral superpowers want to control. China has apparently been trying for some time to aquire the latest Japanese and Dutc...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

Robert, I spent a lot of time looking at that scope last year, and almost bought it. But many users report bad quality control, and many people had to return theirs for adjustment. Thanks for the report Lou! I emailed them a few times a couple of years ago but was not too impressed with their respo...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

Robert, the results with the Mamiya 250mm lens do depend on the objective used. With some objectives it shows a slight, mostly correctable red fringe. An even better choice would be the famous Zeiss/Hasselblad 250mm Superachromat. This can't add a red fringe, because it is a lens designed for space...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

......I thought it was a symmetrical lens so I didn't bother! The tube lens used for the sample is a Rodenstock APO-Gerogon and it according to Rodenstock it is symmetrical. They were designed to be used in reduction or mag without having to remove the lens to reverse it. Range was given from 1:3 t...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

With PSMS there is a 1 EV reduction is noise, equiv. to giving it one more stop light, compared to non-PSMS images. yeah that's another nice side effect - with the S1R 8 shot PS one gets about 2EV better noise performance and thus also 2 stops more dynamic range. interesting that you can use the A7...

Re: This Just Seems Strange

I've had the same experience with Chris S, I've purchased directly from Thorlabs and nothing but great support. BTW, the free snack box is called LabSnacks. One big factor everyone is missing is that Thorlabs offers a warranty, some items are covered for the life of the product, also I was told you ...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

No drawbacks except that no shifting adapter exists, so you can't use sensor shifting to stack-and-stitch (unless you are willing to fit the lens on the inside of a view camera; this works well). It's an excellent lens, especially when I need to make full-spectrum pictures that focus IR and visible...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

"It might actually cover FF with a 250mm + lens I think....Wonder if I should reverse the APO-Gerogon for better corners? I thought it was a symmetrical lens so I didn't bother!" I have just the tube lens for you. The Mamiya 250mm Apo-Sekor. This is a superb lens, corrected even into the infrared. ...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

"Will try it again in a few hours, maybe its time for a 20 minute nap" That usually works for me! Hi Lou, You know somehow I managed to screw up two more 16-shot HR stacks when I got back to work, but eventually I got a good one with fresh batteries and synced flash. Came out nicely. Also shot a qu...

Re: 8x HR NA 0.32 + α7R IV 4 Image Pixel Shift Mode

Ran a 16 image Pixel Shift stack of 10 or 12 images yesterday and accidentally reformatted before I downloaded. I won't do that again! #-o  Just tried to run another 16 image pixel shift stack but this time I forgot to put fresh batteries in the flashes so images 8-16 in each image series ar...

Re: This Just Seems Strange

This is interesting, checking eBay for Rodenstock Modular Focus, 7 ads come up, only 2 are below the cost new, 4 are more are asking for more than the cost of a new unit! The Modular Focus Unit new for $293+$10 for shipping. _PM-Digikey-ad.jpg Current eBay prices for used units :D to be fair these d...

Re: This Just Seems Strange

If it is any consolation, I regularly see second-hand items on eBay, Aliexpress etc. at prices that significantly exceed the price of the same item in factory-new condition. China-based sellers seem to be especially greedy these days. Some Indian and SE Asian sellers also sometimes seem to have no ...
