I couple of years ago I tried on an Acer gaming laptop that worked well with Zerene Stacker. The stacking using Affinity was painfully slow.

I ran the same stack in Zerene Pmax = 3 minutes 20 seconds D map = 3 minutes 13 seconds. I accepted the default setting on the slider and continued stacking. The enabling of open CL in helicon is making the difference. This was pointed out by Travis Olds and based on his experience. I get slightly f...

I only do minor work in LR before exporting. Spot removal is the main one and I have that setting saved so I can used it over and over. Will also do some exposure and highlight adjustment. As I use a Canon 70-200mm f4 L series lens as a tube lens I have the lens correction feature selected. I use PS...

New Puget System computer

My desktop system died several years ago and was replaced by an ACER gaming laptop. It was an improvement over the old desktop for staking. Recently had a discussion with folks on a mineral FB group about stacking. One mentioned running stack with Helicon that finished in under 2 minutes. Based on t...

We have been holed up at home for a couple of weeks before Washington went into lockdown. My wife and I are in our 70's and she worked as a virologist. Her work experience was at CDC, a Navy biowarfare lab and California State Health Department. She had a good idea where this was headed so we took o...

No, but I wish it was. There was a dealer at our Northwest Friends of Mineralogy symposium a number of years back that had a chunk of rock laced with linarite. As she did not deal in micros so I got it for a few bucks. It was very productive.

You may find it difficult to find a laptop with a CD drive. They seem to be a dying breed as most folks download programs from the internet. A couple of years ago my desktop died a hard death and the laptop I had at the time was not up to stacking efficiently and running a Stackshot rail. I opted fo...

I use a vertical setup. I photograph microminerals and have found that lighting is easier using a vertical setup.
