Thanks, looking forward to the MK2 version next year, a few more pixels to play with. This is a heavy crop from the original image. Critters never seem to make it easy by landing in front of me.

Surely the simplest way is to invest in a couple of spares and change batteries a bit earlier. I have 3 and would probably run out of storage first.

Very much interested on the ongoing discussion - I have one question on the focus bracketing (either in OM-D EM 5 Mark 2 and D-M1) available ? in what shooting modes i.e. P, M, A and S ... Thanks, In order to maintain constant exposure between shots P, A & S are unsuitable so the camera should be u...

Naturally I have been following this thread and it is nice to see there are others out there making the most of bracketing/stacking. I am well and truly hooked on both options and kick myself when I forget to to take advantage. Having made the switch from Nikon to Olympus last year I am really pleas...

Rumour has it that the EM-1 mk 2 will be out later this year so will be interesting to see what else they can pack in. High res & bracketing at the same time ?.

Orchid from Eric Young Foundation, Jersey,

If you visit Jersey and are into flowers this orchid house is amazing. Spent two days there a while back, second day captured images to stack. All under natural light without any wind.

I use an EM1 & 60mm macro so we have very similar facilities. Focus bracketing using the lens makes life much easier for us and removes the need for a stackshot or similar (ok, may remove the need...). After a lot of experimentation I have settled on f2.8 for all stack pictures with an offset of 1 i...

It is mainly due to my lighting which needs diffusing. Plant is Mammillaria. If bee keeps its pose I will transplant to a suitable flower for another take. However this is only to give an idea as to the camera/lens performance so unlikely to work beyond 1:1. Crop. http://www.photomacrography.net/for...

Found this bee walking very slowly on the pavement, not long for this world. Helped on it way by the freezer. Still working on my lighting but too many other things to do at present so just posting these for reference. Trying to get a natural pose proved difficult but I have been photographing cacti...

Insect for stacking trial with Olympus M1

My main area of interest is flora at 1:1 but having recently purchased a set of extension tubes (10+16) for my 60mm macro I would like to see what the setup is capable of.

Can anyone recommend a suitable supplier of mounted insects and maybe recommend a particular species to get as a trial ?.

I needed 800 images to produce the stack depth, 500 were not enough and the stack cut off too early. You need the M1 to get the Focus Bracket feature. However the focus stack will be very useful in the field.

800 was used after trialling 300, 500 etc. to get the coverage I wanted. Even without tubes there is no way of calculating how many frames are needed but this is just a question of experience, not really a problem. The camera has an internal facility (Focus Stack) to record and process 8 shots autom...
