Re: With a modern Sony, what does "f/8" at 1X mean?
I know that modern Nikon cameras and macro lenses work directly in effective f-number, already corrected for magnification. I believe the camera body displays the F/number data that the lens reports. I don't know exactly how it works but as far as I've read some lenses would overestimate the value ...

Re: infinite objective + Raynox DCR-150 - distances?
Hi, I started my infinity setup with very long distance, something like 15 cm, between objectives following Nikon recommendations about tube lenses but, as Rik say, the system works equally well if not better with very close distances, and may be this can avoid some problems of internal reflections ...

Re: Shockwave
Hi, is a really interesting experiment and intriguing image! Not sure if can be related to a mechanical wave phenomenon called hertzian fracture in some literature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertzian_cone Seems very similar to the "crater" and "wallner lines" described in this pdf: http://www.do...

Re: Nikon PB6 Video "Hidden Features"
I got a PB6 from Saul long ago and use it often, it's a nice bellows. However, it has some nice "hidden features" I was unaware of. Here's a video of the PB6 showing these "hidden features" I found on DPreview. https://youtu.be/1ywKcPMOjG8 https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4439398 Best, Hi, in...

Hi, it really looks like a Helix sp, the common species of the Mediterran coast, the area where I live, in a nearby city the "aplec del cargol" is celebrated every year, during a weekend about 200,000 visitors cooked and consumed 13 tons of these mollusks! Perhaps the reflections you mention are due...

Four o'clock flower seed
Short studio stack of about 5 frames @2.5X Nikon DSLR + Sigma 24mm f/2.8 manual lens reversed with the classic BR-2A ring. A flickr contact has made me notice the resemblance to the elytra of some beetles. I do not know if this resemblance is included in some kind of camouflage or just the opposite,...

My thanks to you both. Joaquim, special thanks for your comments on the red variety. I think that you are quite right in regards to the ones I showed (which I have heard can cross-react with individuals who have a nut allergy). Apparently there is much confusion, partly because there is also a red ...

Hi, great work, the textures are very well represented. About the origin of peppers, I think the green, black and white are from the same shrub, normally Piper nigrum although there are other varieties, but the red one with "smooth skin" is from the ripe fruit of a tree that is sometimes seen in urb...

Amazing shots. Eye-pleasing details. Thanks, this light combo works very well. Great captures, the title was spot on :D -10C and snow here, grey skies. Cant wait for spring and summer.. Here on the coast line it is not very cold but inside of the country the snow accumulates as it was not seen for ...
